Obituary of David A. Bustamante

David Bustamante was born on August 9, 1962 in Comas, Lima, Peru to Policarpo Bustamante and Leonor Espinoza. He was baptized at Señor de los Milagros Parish in Comas, Peru in 1964. David married Ruth Carranza in 2006 in the Borough Hall, Staten Island, New York. David was the devoted father of David Jr. and Brian Bustamante. In 1990, David immigrated to the United States to join their older siblings who did so before him. David lived in Staten Island together with his family for 25 years. He was the loving brother of Maria, Oscar, Hector, Mabel and Sergio Bustamante. David was a hardworking man who worked for the merchant navy and then was a detective of Policía de Investigaciones del Perú (PIP) back in Peru before coming to the United States. After that, he worked in several jobs until he joined the NYC Carpenters Union for which he worked for 13 years. David was a very gifted and talented carpenter. He made wonderful jobs in several exclusive buildings in New York City, one of them, the Marriott World Trade Center Hotel which was destroyed just two weeks before the 9/11 attacks. Here in Staten Island one of his beautiful jobs can be still appreciated on the inside walls of the Staten Island University Hospital North Side Emergency Room Lobby. David was a loving son, husband and brother who was always there for whomever that needed him. Besides of being a gifted carpenter, he was a great handyman who made many improvements at home and for his neighbors as well, whom he did not hesitate to help. David was characterized by having a big heart and being very humble. With his priceless help, David contributed greatly for the progress of his family. Unfortunately, in the last 2 years of his life, he suffered from a rare disease called Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) and after a tortuous treatment and two bone marrow transplants David lost the battle and passed away on October 31st, 2015 at the age of 53. A valuable man was lost and our hearts got broken. David was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Funeral arrangements, handled by Matthew's Funeral Home, took place on November 1st and 2nd, 2015 as well as the burial ceremony at Moravian Cemetery with a massive attendance. This extraordinary man left us his legacy of love, help and humbleness. David always gave love and will be forever missed. Rest in peace beloved David. Fue bautizado en la Parroquia Señor de los Milagros de Comas, Perú, en 1964. David se casó con Ruth Carranza en el 2006 en la Municipalidad de Staten Island, Nueva York. David fue un padre dedicado y proveedor de sus dos hijos David Jr. y Brian Bustamante. En 1990, David emigró a los Estados Unidos para unirse a sus hermanos mayores que lo hicieron antes que él. David vivió en Staten Island junto con su familia durante 25 años. Fue el cariñoso hermano de María, Oscar, Héctor, Mabel y Sergio Bustamante. David fue un hombre trabajador que laboró para la marina mercante y luego fue detective de la Policía de Investigaciones del Perú (PIP) en el Perú antes de venir a los Estados Unidos. Después de eso, tuvo varios empleos hasta que se unió al Sindicato de Carpinteros de Nueva York para el que trabajó por 13 años. Aquí en Staten Island, uno de sus hermosos trabajos aún se puede apreciar en las paredes interiores del vestíbulo de la sala de emergencias del Staten Island University Hospital, en su sede del norte. David era un hijo, esposo y hermano amoroso que siempre estaba allí para quien lo necesitara. Además de ser un carpintero talentoso, realizó muchas mejoras en el hogar y para sus vecinos también, a quienes no dudó en ayudar. David se caracterizó por tener un gran corazón y ser muy humilde. Con su invaluable ayuda, David contribuyó en gran medida al progreso de su familia. Desafortunadamente, en los últimos 2 años de su vida, sufrió una enfermedad rara llamada Síndrome de Mielodisplasia (SMD) y después de un tratamiento tortuoso y dos trasplantes de médula ósea, David perdió la batalla y falleció el 31 de octubre de 2015 a la edad de 53 años. Perdimos a un hombre valioso quedando nuestros corazones totalmente destrozados. David era feligrés de la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo en Staten Island. Los arreglos funerarios, realizados por Matthew's Funeral Home, tuvieron lugar el 1ro. y el 2 de noviembre del 2015, así como la ceremonia de entierro en el Moravian Cemetery con una asistencia masiva. Este hombre extraordinario nos dejó su legado de amor, ayuda y humildad. David siempre dio amor y siempre lo extrañaremos. Descansa en paz amado David.
