Obituary of Joan M. Grace

Joan M. Grace, 89, of Poughkeepsie, NY, formerly of Willowbrook, Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late David (2007); loving mother of Paul Grace and his wife, Kathy, Mary Lou Matthews and her husband, Linton, Rita Kramek and her husband, Thomas, Michael Grace and his wife, Margaret, Joni Gaeta and her husband, Patrick, and Charles Grace and his wife Ruthanne; cherished grandmother of 19 and devoted great-grandmother of 9. Joan was also survived by her beloved dog Bonnie. She was preceded in death by 3 grandsons and her two siblings, Charles Fader and Bertha Egbert. Mrs. Grace was born on Staten Island in 1930, raised in Westerleigh, and was graduated from Port Richmond High School. In her younger years she worked as a bookkeeper for the former S.S. Kresge, St. Rita's School as well as Staten Island University Hospital. As a youth she was an avid rollerderby extroadanaire. This is where she met her future husband, as her was her manager. She was known as "Jammin Joan". Later on in life she was a member of the "Lady Bugs", which was a women's social group. Joan was very strong in the Catholic Faith who loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Due to the current health crisis, visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, as well as the committal service at Woodland Cemetery will be private.
