Grace A. Visceglia (nee Cortese) 88, of Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2020 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Benjamin; Cherished Mother of Vincent Guinta and his wife Erin, SaraJean Jackson and her husband Simon, Barbara Passalacqua and her husband Anthony. Beloved Step-Mother to Linda Ingravallo and her husband Vito, Steven Visceglia and his wife Tina, Karen Fanizza and her husband Bart. Loving sister to Marianne Roda Goffredo, Francine Licata and Victor Cortese.Beloved Grandmother of 14 and Great Grandmother of 10. She was Aunt Grace to several Nieces and Nephews who all loved her dearly.
Grace was born on Staten Island in 1931 and raised in West Brighton. She graduated from Curtis High School in 1949. In her younger years Grace worked as a Librarian at the West Brighton Library. Later she was a secretary for a freight forwarding company in Manhattan for over 20 years. In 1994 she retired and married Ben the same year.
Grace loved spending time with her family; she was a great cook and an even better baker. Her apple cake was always requested at family gatherings. Other family members may argue that it was her marinated eggplant or her meatballs that were the best. Everyone had a favorite. She was a talented seamstress and made school dresses for her daughters when they were growing up, she also made gowns, beautiful drapery for her home and communion dresses for her girls. Whatever you wanted, she could make. She was a league bowler in her earlier days and enthusiastically continued to participate in the sport well into her 80s.
She settled in Eltingville in 1994 after marrying Ben. They traveled quite a bit, so much so that it seemed they were never home. They didn't let any grass grow under their feet; they were always out doing something, enjoying their life together. She always said "I can't sit in this house and do nothing". They loved going to Atlantic City and whenever they didn't have other plans they were there! She loved to entertain and always had her family for dinner or friends for a card game. She never missed a family occasion and always came arms full with food and gifts. She never forgot anyone. Grace adored her Grandchildren and never missed a birthday or graduation.
Grace was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church.
She made us laugh right up until the end. Most people will remember her laugh, her smiling face and her sense of humor, her kindness, her goodness, her consideration, her strength, her beauty, her elegance and mostly her love.
Due to the current health crisis the visitation as well as the graveside service will be private.
