Obituary of Rosemary A. Finigan

Rosemary A. Finigan (nee Mullusky), 97, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late Eugene M. Finigan and the late David J. Vanderbilt; loving mother of Nancy A. Vanderbilt; dear stepmother of Dorothy Finigan Prophet; cherished grandmother of Jennifer Allen Nunn; devoted great-grandmother of Kayla R. Nunn and Dylan C. Nunn; fond step-grandmother of Dane, Brynn, and the late Cade Prophet; dear sister of Bette Brown, Janet Verschingel, Thomas A. Mullusky, the late Arlene Spingler, late Norma Spronck, late Doris Bennett, and the late Carole Kostyshyn. She was a life-long Staten Islander, who was born and raised on Targee Street in Stapleton. She was graduated from McKee High School. Rosemary proudly enlisted in the Navy during WWII, stationed in Norfolk, VA, where she worked in the canteen. She was honorably discharged in 1945. Rosemary performed in USA Tours and Shows: Hoffman and Ellis Islands, Holloran Hospital for Veterans (now the College of Staten Island) and performed at the St. George Theater. Mrs. Finigan was employed at the Atlantic Mutual Insurance Company (49 Wall Street), and later at the Lever Brothers in the business section. Rosemary was a true blue and avid Mets and Jets fan!!! She was a skilled bowler, with a high game of 261, also enjoyed gardening, crosswords and jigsaw puzzles. Rosemary was very generous, as she shared her garden flowers with friends and neighbors, and crafty, as she made all of her sweaters, mittens, gloves and scarves for the family. She was an excellent baker and enjoyed baking cakes for family functions. In addition, she was an avid reader, there was always a pile of books on her living room coffee table. Once she finished them she would pass them along to family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Rosemary’s memory be made to the Wounded Warrior’s Project or the Vietnam Veterans. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday, departing at time 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart R.C. Church at 10:15 AM. Cremation will be private. Visiting will be on Friday, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Due to the pandemic, all visitors to the funeral home and church must wear a mask and the amount of visitors will be limited.
