Richie was the kindest of neighbors. He always had a smile and a story. The kids loved him and kids know what is truth.

RICHARD PETER PAHOPIN - I knew him when....
I can’t count the number of times that I bragged about my Cousin Richie and the work that he did. He was out there battling the bad guys, trying to make it a safer America for all of us. He was a tough as nails agent in his work. He was a true American hero. He was a gentle, loving family man to his relatives. If he met you only once, he made you feel like family. He was a generous man. He was a true gentleman (a trait which he got from his father, Joseph).
I knew him when.....
I knew him long before his heroics in his work life.
I knew him when we were kids, when we lived in the same building. Cousin Richie was 10 years older than me. A younger cousin can be a nuisance at times. I’m sure that I must have been. Cousin Richie never once made me feel like a nuisance. He always loved me like I was his kid brother.
When I knew him way back then, that is when my Cousin Richie became my hero. He’s been my hero ever since.
The picture you see is at his retirement dinner party. I arrived at the party and he directed me to sit in the seat to his right, with his lovely wife Ella sitting at his left side. I felt so honored that he wanted me to sit down next to him for such a big occasion.
I’ll always remember the funny face he would make with one eye closed and tongue sticking out, long before emojis.
I’ll always hear his laughter in my mind.
Richie called me brother on many occasions. Though we’re first cousins, he will live on in my heart forever as my friend and my brother.
Richie, I loved you when, I love you today,
I love you ALWAYS. Until we meet again, my brother. ✝️ ❤️

We met Ella's parents first, then Richard, they started dating, one Saturday Ella came out of her house, dressed as a bride to marry Richard, the two of them made a beautiful couple, then the children were born, so we saw many beautiful things in their lives, Richard was always seen with a happy attitude, always smiling, he was very polite to everyone who approached him, I remember that once he took my sister to her house because it was very cold, he was kind to everyone, he loved the wine that his father-in-law made, every time Richard came with the family to visit his in-laws, he always came us to say hello with a big smile, the same Ella, their children, came out as the father, Joseph and Anthony, inherited the moral education that their parents taught them, Richard and Ella have done a great job, building a beautiful family and this will continue for generation by generation, something that has been inherited since they born. Today very few families are seen like Pahopin Family, so they are an example for our society.
We ask God for His eternal rest where he will be next to God and from there he will continue to see and bless the family that Richard built. We lift our prayers to God for His eternal rest. Amen

Dear Richie,
My heart is very very sad with your passing. You were a great friend to myself and Dave and you and Ella have always opened your home and hearts to us. When we came down to New York a couple of years ago, you made sure that we got to see you and Ella and many others old friends.
I saw you at my sister Angela's birthday party and knowing of my sadness, you told me and I quote :"You deserve to be happy"
We danced and talked some more about our lives and family.
Thank you for inviting us to your home on many Christmas Eve nights where you would play your great music.
Our families have been intertwined for almost 30 years through our children. basketball and your beautiful family.
I have so many other stories about you but as anyone who knew you, knows what a great, religious, fun person.
My condolences to my dear friend Ella and Joey and Anthony and their spouses.
You will never be forgotten. Love Joanne

I first met Richie in the early 90’s when he came to Newark (from JFK) as a Supervisor. He was full of energy and passionate about narcotics interdiction. That passion resulted in the fine tuning of an enforcement team and transforming it into one of the top 3 seizure airports in the country. Richie and I would often share our experiences growing up and the loss of friends and loved ones to the scourge of drug addiction. I believe that this was a part of what drove him to excel in the drug interdiction arena.
Most importantly, Richie and I spent many a late shift (between flights) discussing our faith in God and the absolute love of our families. Richie’s chiseled and hardened face would soften at the mere mention of his wife Ella or his boys Joey and Anthony….they were the source of his joy in this sometimes challenging world. We would recollect funny memories of the silly things that our kids did when they were young and would laugh until it hurt. When our children became adults, we would beam with pride at their accomplishments.
Richie was defined by the love for his family, and would do anything to ensure their happiness and growth. Lastly Richie was a true blue loyal friend who would defend you no matter what the consequences were. I will miss you pal. Till we meet again…..Eddie M

It was in the early 90’s that I first met Richard..We were both employed by the U.S. Customs Service (Homeland Security) and Richard was assigned to replace my supervisory while he was on a special assignment in Florida. Richard's fair and friendly ways immediately won the favor of all.
Our friendship rapidly moved beyond the office and extended to our families. I got to meet his wonderful family; his lovely wife Ella and their two well-mannered sons, Joseph and Anthony. His family got to meet my wife Maria and suddenly it felt as though we were all part of the same family. So many enjoyable fun times together, filled with good food and plenty of laughs, Richie was truly a lover of life. He will live forever in our hearts.
