Obituary of Elsie Rossi

Elsie Rossi, age 87, passed away on September 3, 2020, surrounded by her loved ones. Elsie was born in Brooklyn on June 13, 1933 to the late Fiore and Mary DeSena. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis Rossi and loving mother of Lisa Ponzi (Joseph), Lynn Degeronimo (Alfred) and Louis John Rossi (Eve); cherished grandmother of Laura Gitter (Jason), Jennifer Caputo (Michael), Christina Rick (Daniel), Gina Rossi and Louis John Rossi; devoted great-grandmother of Ava Lynn, Jason, Joseph, Michael, Sienna and Italia; dear sister of Steven DeSena, Phyllis Trennert, Marilyn DeSena, the late Ralph DeSena, the late Frank DeSena, John DeSena and Richard DeSena. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Elsie was raised in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn, where she met her late husband Louis Rossi. They were married for 28 years and she was a devoted housewife and Mother. She worked as a Para-Professional for the Board of Education and volunteered her time as a Religious Instruction teacher after her retirement. Elsie derived great enjoyment getting together with her children and grandchildren, baking, cooking and preserving Italian Holiday traditions. She also loved playing games and reading stories to her great grandchildren. She was a wonderful role model who served as the Matriarch of her Family. Her vivacious and caring personality fostered many beautiful friendships. She was loved by everyone and will be missed dearly. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd., on Tuesday, 9/8/2020, departing at 9:00 AM. Funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in Green Wood Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Monday, 9/7/2020, from 2:00 to 4:30 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
