Obituary of Carmela Caterina
Carmela Caterina, 95, of Castleton Corners, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph (2011); beloved mother of Anthony Caterina, and Mary Iasiello and her husband Bernard; cherished grandmother of Christopher Iasiello, Dr. Catherine Iasiello and her husband Donato Aceto, and Elizabeth Colletti and her husband Gregory; devoted great-grandmother of Oscar and James Aceto, and Carmela and Salvatore Colletti. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Carmela was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Caterina was born in Hibbing, Minnesota, in 1925, and was brought to Staten Island as an infant. She was raised in New Brighton and graduated from Curtis High School. Carmela was a proud homemaker, raising her two children, and later entered the work force as an Administrative Assistant for several shipping companies. In her spare time she enjoyed watching Jeorpady and Wheel of Fortune, doing Sudoku and crossword puzzles, and researching on her Ipad. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing and travelling with her husband Joseph.
Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, departing at 10 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Teresa’s R.C. Church at 10:45 am. Interment to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Family and friends and will be received on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm.
Due to the current health crisis all visitors to the funeral home and church must wear a mask and the number of people allowed in at once will be limited due to capacity.
