Obituary of Tony Mero

Tony Mero, 90, of Cadensis, PA, passed away on October 4, 2020. He was the beloved husband of the late Anna Mero and late Josie Mero; loving father of Jo Ann Mero and her wife Martha Loomis, and Francine Sanfilippo and her husband Joey; cherished grandfather of Cosmo Sanfilippo and his wife Monique, Anthony Sanfilippo and his wife Nicole, and Joseph Sanfilippo; devoted great-grandfather of A.J., Cole, and Adyson Sanfilippo; dear brother of the late Leonard Mero, late Benny Mero, and late Anna Russo. He was also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Mero was born in New York City in 1930, and raised in Greenwich Village. After high school, Tony enlisted and served in the U.S. Army for four years. He was employed as a Meat Cutter and Manager of Super Markets over the years. Tony was very involved in the Washington Square American Legion Post 1212, where he was a First District Commander and was awarded the "Legionnaire of the Year." He was a master at Gin Rummy. He was a big fan of the old time comedians and had a passion for music and western movies. When he walked into a room he lit it up. Tony was a people person and loved to travel with his longtime army buddy Albie Izzo. Most of all he was a good dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, and was loved by all. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Thursday, departing at 10 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church at 10:30 am. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Due to Covid, all visitors must wear a mask, practice social distancing, and be mindful that a small wait to visit might exist due to capacity limitations.
