Obituary of Maureen Ryan

Maureen Ryan, 74 Teacher, Mother & Grandmother Maureen (Donovan) Ryan, a retired teacher and native Staten Islander passed away at home on October 6 surrounded by her loving family. She suffered for the last 8 years from Alzheimer's disease. Born in Stapleton on August 12, 1946 to Cecilia (Roginski) and Edward John Donovan. She attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School, St. Louis Academy and Notre Dame College. She received a Master's Degree in Education from Richmond College. She was a school teacher for 32 years at P.S.13, Rosebank. She was an active parishioner of Holy Family Church, Westerleigh where she taught CCD and was a lector. Her hobbies included painting, sewing and embroidery. Her travels included San Francisco, Chicago, Ireland, Summers at the Jersey Shore and Labor Day at Woodloch Pines, Hawley, PA. Surviving are her loving husband of 43 years, Richard; two sons Richard Sean of Bonney Lake, WA and Michael Joseph of Westerleigh; their wives Adriane (Dufty) and Margaret (Stroh); A brother John "Jack" of Charleston, SC. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas of East Meadow, LI; survived by her 4 grandchildren Grace, Charlotte 'Lottie',Alice and Edward John. Maureen is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be Friday, October 9th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Matthews Funeral Home, Westerleigh. Funeral Mass will be Saturday October 10th, 10am at Holy Family RC Church, Westerleigh. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
