Obituary of Carlo Montalbano

Carlo Montalbano was born in NYC- Little Italy- on May 29th, 1935 to Charles and Josephine Montalbano, both immigrants from Italy. He passed away suddenly at his home in Graniteville, Staten Island. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Dominick, Rosemary and Joseph. He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Ann, his brother Charles, his two sons Christinand Gregory, and the apple of his eye, grandson Hunter Alexander. Carlo lived an interesting and full life. He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division from 1954-1956 a paratrooper stationed in Germany and placed a tattoo on his forearm commemorating his service. Returning from the Armed Forces Carlo began working for the NYC Department of Transportation as a draftsman and a junior engineer. He met and married his wife Brenda on September 8, 1962, who gave birth to 2 sons in 1964 and 1965. He fulfilled a lifelong dream when he moved his family from an apartment in the city to a single family home in Staten Island in 1967. Here is where he would spend the remainder of his life and create many happy memories with his family including his 4yo grandson Hunter. Throughout his life Carlo pushed himself and those around him towards making achievements. In 1973he was named Borough Engineer for Manhattan and in 1978 he was Borough Engineer of Staten Island. He received his bachelor's degree of Science from the College of New Rochelle and a Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall Law School. Carlo retired from the Department of Transportation as Chief of Bridges in 1991 after thirty-two years of service. His children went on to graduate Monsignor Farrell High School and Medical School. Christin is a practicing Internal Medicine Specialist and Gregory a practicing Orthopedic Surgeon. Carlo enjoyed quiet nights at home reading and keeping up with current events. He enjoyed time with his wife Brenda of 58 years celebrating their most recent anniversary last month. Carlo and Brenda explored the world together traveling to Europe, Russia and China. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and wine making. He was very proud of his Italian heritage and especially his father and mothers hometown of Sciacca , Sicily, where he traveled to visit remaining family. He was a longtime member of Italian Club of Staten Island where he attended regular meetings and was director of the Clubs annual scholarship program for high school graduates of academic excellence and financial need. Carlo's strong belief in education moved him to establish his own annual scholarship program named to his son Gregory and delivered alongside that of the Club. Recently and most of all Carlo enjoyed spending time with his grandson Hunter who was the light of his life and with whom he was profoundly in love. Carlo was greatly looking forward to spending more time with his grandson Hunter and also to the newest family arrival, a baby girl due on December 3, 2020. Carlo was loved by many for his strong character supported by a warm heart and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., on Friday, departing at 10 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church at 10:30 am. Entombment to follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
