Obituary of Dr. Miriam E. Werner

Dr. Miriam Werner, of Toms River, New Jersey, and Naples, Florida passed away on Dec. 22, 2020 in Staten Island, New York. Miriam was predeceased by her parents, Gustave and Elizabeth Wilhelm and her son Dean Werner. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Dr. Debra Werner, Denise Werner, and Shari Malgieri and her cherished grandchildren Salvatore Salerno, Brady Malgieri, Olivia Malgieri, her loving Yorkie LuLu, as well as many loyal and devoted friends she embraced as family. Miriam was born and raised in Newark, N.J. As a single mom she successfully raised three daughters while at the same time studying Chiropractic Medicine at NY Chiropractic College in Long Island and awarded a Masters Degree in Nutrition at University of Bridgeport, Conn. She went on to establish 3 successful private practices in Colonia, N.J, Lakewood, N.J and Staten Island, N.Y. Miriam was the first woman elected as President of the Staten Island Rotary Club. She was an active supporter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation on Staten Island. In her spare time Miriam enjoyed target shooting and became one of the top female sharpshooters in New Jersey. No one had more energy or zest for life than Miriam. She enjoyed travel, shopping, interior decorating, fine dining, throwing elaborate parties, and helping anyone who needed her. She was an animal lover and enthusiastically welcomed all pets into her home escorted by their owners who were warmly greeted with sweets and either a hot coffee or one of her personally crafted wines from her wine cellar. Most of all, her greatest joy came from spending time with people, sparking conversation and advising her children and grandchildren on her perspectives on life at the beaches, the boardwalks, and even the baseball bleachers. Visitation at the Matthew funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Wedneseday, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia, New Jersey Due to Covid, all visitors must wear masks and practice social distancing. Please be mindful that a wait to visit might exist due to current capacity limitations.
