Obituary of Appu Govindan

With deepest regrets, we inform you of the passing of Appu Govindan (78) on December 25th, 2020 at 12:30pm at Staten Island University Hospital. He was born on February 17, 1942, at Kadakkavoor, Kerala, India. Mr. Appu, son of Govindan and Gouri, was 6th of 9 children. At the age of 19, he started as a civilian in the Indian Air Force, New Delhi. He married Prasanna Sreenivasan in 1973. Mr. Appu immigrated to New York in 1975 with his wife. He worked for Transom Schultz Inc, NYC. Mr. Appu was involved in both family and community. As one of the founding members of Sree Narayana Association of New York, Inc in 1979, he believed in the importance of keeping traditions and culture. During Onam festivities, many remember Mr. Appu gracing our celebrations as King Mahabali. Later, upon the establishment of the Hindu Temple of Staten Island, Mr. Appu was an active volunteer. Lovingly called Appu Chettan by whoever was blessed to know him, he was a simple soul with an easy smile and principles. Mr. Appu with his wife, Prasanna took pleasure gardening and traveling, He also enjoyed time with his grandchildren, Jenna and Aidan. Mr. Appu Govindan is survived by his wife Prasanna, daughters Linda and Leena, and grandchildren Jenna and Aidan.
