Obituary of John E. "Shawn" Bottone
John E. "Shawn" Bottone, age 73, a lifelong resident of Staten Island passed away on January 5, 2021. He was the devoted son of the late John and Anita Bottone; beloved husband of Linda Bottone (nee Viola); loving father of Tara, John, Shawn and Jack; dear companion of Denise, cherished grandpa of Arien, River and Landon; dear brother of Lynne Garguilo and her husband Louis and the late Edward Bottone and his late wife Barbara. Shawn is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Shawn was born in Concord and soon after moved to Westerleigh in Staten Island. He attended and graduated from Port Richmond High School. In 1964, he made a conscientious choice to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965-1967. After being honorably discharged he worked as a corrections officer at the Arthur Kill Correctional Facility and later worked at his family business, CarParts Inc. Shawn married his wife, Linda Bottone in 1972 and raised their family in Westerleigh.
Shawn loved spending time with his family, especially the time spent with his grandsons. He enjoyed fixing cars, watching sports and going to Yankee games with his son John.
"What I'll miss most about my dad is his Vietnam stories, his dad jokes and the endless knowledge he had whenever I had a problem or needed something fixed," said his son John. Shawn had a loving heart for all animals and rescued countless over the years. He saved everything from cats, dogs to a squirrel and monkey. Shawn was a very caring, funny and generous person who was always there for everyone. "This is such a tremendous loss to our family. We miss him so much already and our hearts are hurting. We wish we could have even just one more day with him," said his daughter Tara.
Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. A viewing will be held on Sunday, 1/10/2021, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A private cremation will follow.
