Obituary of Mary Cappelluti
Mary Cappelluti (nee Cutrone), 80
Loving mother
On Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021, our loving mother passed away at home after a three-year valiant battle with multiple cancers surrounded by her family.
Mary, a lifelong Staten Islander, was born and raised in New Brighton. She attended P.S. 17 and she graduated from Curtis H.S. in 1958.
The daughter of Antonio and Dominica Cutrone, she was predeceased by Anthony Cappelluti in 1988 and her siblings, Rose Varriano (Tony), Bernard Cutrone (Isabel), and Salvatore (Ann). She was the loving sister of Anna DeLuca (Michael) and the best mom of Natalie, Anthony, Anna Cappelluti and Douglas King. Beloved aunt and godmother to many nieces and nephews affectionally everyone's Aunt Mary.
Mary retired from both the New York City Department of Buildings and the United States Postal Service in 2002.
Mary enjoyed traveling, visiting various countries; France Germany, Greece, Holland, but most enjoyably was visiting her parents and sibling's hometown of Vinchiaturo, Italy. Mom would have her bags packed and off to Atlantic City at a moment's notice.
Mom was happiest surrounded by her family, celebrating every day. Mary was known for her extensive holiday gatherings, which she and her daughters would prepare for days.
Mary remained a kid at heart. She loved playing anything; board games, cards, bingo and she will be mostly remembered for her award-winning handmade Halloween costumes.
But, above all she was a devoted, loving, generous mom. We are heartbroken.
Visiting will be held at the Matthew Funeral Home from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. There will be a Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Our Lady of Pity. The burial will be at Moravian Cemetery.
