Obituary of John Martorano

John Martorano, 87, of Heartland Village, a proud Army veteran and devoted family man, passed away on Monday February 1st in Staten Island University Hospital due to cardiac arrest. Born in 1934 to Salvatore and Josephine Martorano in Borough Park, NY John grew up in Brooklyn before moving to Eltingville in 1977. He attended New Utrecht High School and as a young man worked as a mechanic for Republic Aviation. On Columbus day 1954 he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served for two years in Germany during the Korean War. After returning home he started his career with Con Edison and retired in 1996. John married the love of his life, the former Patricia Tomasulo, on May 16, 1959. They were a match made in heaven and they enjoyed nothing more than traveling, playing cards and entertaining family and friends. John was a proud father and grandfather, and he loved nothing more than spending time with his family. He was a dedicated husband who tended to Patricia’s every need for years when she fell ill. John was a life long Mets fan, he enjoyed watching classic movies, and was an avid golf and tennis player. John was a faithful parishioner of St. Claire’s RC Parish in Great Kills. His brother, Vito, passed away in 2019 and he is survived by his brother Joseph. He is survived by his beloved daughters Diane Amoia & Catherine Martorano, and his grandson Vincent John Amoia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital in memory of John Martorano.
