Christine Diana McGuire passed away at Staten Island University Hospital on Febuary 13, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born on January 21, 1952 to Edward Kaspak and Jeanne Marie La Porte and was raised with her sister Stephanie in Brooklyn, New York. She met her husband Philip in December 1970 and they married in May of 1974 and settled down in Staten Island to raise their sons Matthew, Michael and Timothy.
Christine attended Bishop Kearney High School in Brooklyn and was a scholarship recipient at Marymount Manhattan College, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology with a minor in Special Education. While she waited for a New York City teaching position to open she worked as an Accident and Health Policy Analyst for the Continental Insurance Company in Manhattan. She held that position until 1978 when she gave birth to her first son Matthew.
She enjoyed the role of housewife happily contributing her time and energy to her son’s many activities (baseball, football, basketball, hockey, swimming, track and scouting). She also chaired the “Used Toys” portion of the Blessed Sacrament School Mothers Guild Holiday Fair, volunteered for Class Mother duty and had Scouting Committee Member responsibilities in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
In 1993 Christine returned to school at St Vincent’s Medical Center of Richmond to obtain her Diploma as a Registered Nurse. She was subsequently employed at Clove Lakes Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center from 1996 to 2007. During her employment at Clove Lakes she received many commendations for her professionalism and care-giving. After leaving Clove Lakes in 2007 she tended to her aging mother and became a cheerleader and support staff for her three sons’s college and graduate school careers. In recent years her love, attention and cheerleading has been focused on her four grandchildren.
Chris and her husband Philip loved to travel to visit friends and family and explore the world. She was an avid gardener, cook and mystery reader. She was a member of the local AARP as well as the Blessed Sacrament Seniors group and she and her husband were members of the Westerleigh Improvement Society.
