Obituary of Peter T. Mongiove Jr.
Peter T. Mongiove Jr. 84, of Manchester, New Jersey died, Saturday on February 20th, 2021 at Care One Nursing Home in Holmdel, New Jersey. Peter Mongiove was born in Brooklyn, NY. He resided in Brooklyn for 60 years and then Staten Island for 5 years before moving to Manchester in 2005. Peter passed away only a few weeks after his wife, Evelyn, of 64 loving years.
Peter served our country as a United States Marine as a rank of Corporal. After serving as a Marine, he worked as a shipping clerk. Peter then became a Longshoreman at Pier 3, in Brooklyn, in the early 1960's before retiring after 30 years. In his younger years, Peter enjoyed woodworking and made many special projects for family and friends. Peter also enjoyed playing the drums and listening to jazz music.
Over the more recent years, he was a part of many clubs in his community along with his wife such as; playing cards, shuffle board, bowling, and enjoyed socializing with the many friends that he had in the community. Peter enjoyed going out to eat with his wife Evelyn, and watching television which included their favorite shows, "Law & Order" and "Wheel of Fortune." Peter enjoyed being with his family especially with his great-grandchildren. Peter had a great sense of humor and would always make jokes that would have everyone laughing. He loved telling stories about the past including his years in the Marines.
He is predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, son, Peter T. III, and his daughter-in-law Bernadette. Surviving are his 2 sons; Glen Mongiove and Gene Mongiove& his wife Laura, and Daughter-in-law, Donna Mongiove; 3 grandchildren, Monique Voto and her husband Mark Voto, Jessica Peluso and her husband Benedetto Peluso, and Peter T Mongiove (IV) and his fiancé Alyssa Milazzo; and 4 great-grandchildren: Jake & Mackenzie Voto, and Thomas & Kaitlyn Peluso.
Visitation at Matthew Funeral Home will take place on Wednesday, February 24th, from 5PM-8PM. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, February 25th at 10:15AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 5411 Amboy Road. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America in memory of Peter's fight against Dementia.
