Obituary of Marie D. Esposito
Marie D. Esposito (nee Mondella), age 88, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2021. She was the devoted daughter of Thomas and Margaret Mondella. She was the beloved wife of Michael Esposito of 68 years. She was the loving mother of Dr. Thomas Esposito and his wife Sally and the late Michael A. Esposito and his surviving wife Audrey. She was the cherished nana of Michael Esposito, Paul Esposito, Anthony Esposito and his wife Julia, Michelle Marie Esposito and Ashley Marie Esposito. She was the dear great nana of Slade Esposito and Rose Marie Esposito. She was the fond sister of the late Amelia Garzone and her late husband Manuel. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.
Marie was a lifelong Staten Islander who married the love of her life, Michael in 1952. While Michael was in the U.S. Air Force, Marie and Michael were blessed with their first child, Michael. Their family grew by one in 1960 when their son Thomas was born. Marie was a hardworking woman who worked at the Institute of Basic Research as a Receiving Supervisor. Throughout her life Marie was a very giving and selfless woman. She took up the legacy that her mother-in-law left behind by donating her time and money to St. Anthony. Furthermore, Marie and Michael would donate the rolls for the St. Anthony Mass at Our Lady of Pity Church with the help of Lena Magliocco. Marie was a member of the Rosary Altar Society at Our Lady of Pity Church. In addition to her strong faith Marie was a family oriented woman. She loved being a dedicated nana and great nana. She was an amazing cook and loved having family dinners and gatherings. Marie will be remembered as a warm, caring, loving and kind hearted person who always put everyone else ahead of herself. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.
Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, departing at 10:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, 3/6/2021, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and Sunday, 3/7/2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm
Due to Covid, all visitors must wear masks, practice social distancing, and be mindful that a wait to visit might exist due to current capacity limitations.
