Obituary of Mircea Ionescu

Mircea Ionescu, 70, born in Bucharest on March 29, 1950, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Georgette Ionescu, loving father of Liz Ionescu Schatz; loving Father-in-law of Brian Schatz, dear brother of Gregory Ionescu, sister-in-law Adriana Ionescu, and dear uncle of Ruxandra Ionescu and Mickey Ionescu. Mr. Ionescu was a graduate of the Music Conservatory in Bucharest, Romania, with a specialty in clarinet. He came to New York 43 years ago and went back to school to become a mechanical engineer. He worked and lived in Manhattan, up until retirement in 2015 where he and his wife Georgette moved to Staten Island. His love for music never changed and his favorite genre was jazz. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and always loved a good joke and brought a smile to everyone's face. Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Thursday, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home at 7:00 pm. Due to Covid, all visitors must wear masks, practice social distancing, and be mindful that a small wait to visit might exist due to current capacity limitations.
