Obituary of Walter C. Santos

Walter C. Santos, age 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 21, 2021 surrounded by his three children. Loving husband to Norma E. Santos (predeceased) for an amazing 52 years (together 55 years); adoring father to Sylvia C Santos-Mero, Walter X Santos and Norma Patricia ("Patty") Santos; Beloved Grandfather to Luis ("Louie"), Cristian, Walter ("Wally"), Jacob (predeceased), Lucas, Jake and Soleila. He was also survived by his younger brother and many bother/sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and extended family. Walter was born in Chone, Ecuador in 1942 before relocating to Guayaquil Ecuador at an early age, raised by his mother Blanca Vera-Ferber and Grandmother Anita Anastacia. While taking his niece to a beauty salon appointment, he met her beautician and the eventual love of his life, Norma. Shortly after getting married in 1968, Norma and Walter moved to the United States in search of the American Dream. Walter epitomized "family first". The love for his family, immediate and extended, was clear in how he lived and everything he did. He loved America and the American culture; was a music and movie buff/collector and enjoyed classic cars; Loved to dance, especially with his beautiful wife; Enjoyed hosting gatherings of his family at their home for birthdays, holidays and summer bbq's; He loved soccer and calling everyone "Big Guy"; was an avid runner, first running around the streets/parks of Park slope Brooklyn and after moving to Staten Island, on Victory Blvd in Westerleigh. While he enjoyed all foods he could not cook a lick, but was fortunate to have women is his life like his grandmother, wife, daughters, sisters-in-law, daughter-in-law that enjoyed feeding him. Family and friends may visit him on Thursday, March 25 between 2:00 to 5:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm at Matthew Funeral home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, Staten Island NY. Mass on Friday will be held at St. Roch's Church, located at 602 Port Richmond Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10302 at 10:00 am.
