Obituary of Miriam D'Alessandro

Miriam D'Alessandro was born December 13, 1931 and departed this life on March 18, 2021. Daughter of Joseph & Edith Arena. Sister of Anthony Arena. Mother of Donna Merrill, Albert D'Alessandro and Dante D'Alessandro. Grandmother of Julia Pastore, Joseph D'Alessandro, Cecilia D'Alessandro and Alaia D'Alessandro. Also, left to cherish her memory is 6 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Born and raised in Little Italy New York, Miriam had an innate love of all people. She appreciated and respected everyone. When you were in her presence her vibrant, feisty, caring and comforting spirit had a way of making you feel cared about. Miriam was married on January 31, 1953 to Albert D'Alessandro. Albert died November 14, 1999. Miriam's commitment to Albert lasted until her death. The couple lived in Brooklyn where they raised their 3 children. She worked as a Secretary and Assistant Buyer for Woolworth/Woolco Corp. to put her children through Saint Bernadette's Catholic School. Miriam was a devoted Catholic. She had a little prayer book that she prayed with first thing in the morning for many souls. We all grew up seeing this and she has given her children and grandchildren the gift of faith in the Lord. Every day she prayed for her family, her country and Narcotics Anonymous. She enjoyed family and friends, crocheting, politics, chair yoga and was a very avid reader. Miriam will be missed beyond measure. Memorial Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. A service and shared memories will be conducted at 4:00 pm in the funeral home.
