Obituary of Jamie S. Tortora
The world has lost an innocent, and loving soul. Our beloved son, Jamie S. Tortora, who was born on December 4, 1970, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 after a brief illness.
Jamie was born with Down’s Syndrome, but he lived life to the fullest.
Born and raised on Staten Island, he attended the Hungerford
School, and the United Cerebral Palsy day program. In his younger years, he participated in the Special Olympics, for which he received medals and awards. He enjoyed bowling, swimming, and trips with his family.
As an adult, Jamie took pleasure in listening to his radio with his headphones, playing video games, and playing with his nephew.
He enjoyed family gatherings at Christmas, birthdays, and at his sister’s house for her famous backyard barbecues. He looked forward to his Atlantic City trips to play his favorite slot machines, and to visit his favorite restaurants. Jamie had his own sense of humor with his pranks and irreverence. He looked forward to spending time with his home health aide and good friend, James Hutchinson, who will surely miss him also.
Jamie is survived by his parents, Dianne and A. James Tortora, brother Troy Tortora, and sister Tammi and brother-in-law Louis Dini, and his nephew James Dini. Also fondly remembered and loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
We all will miss him greatly. It’s always hard to say goodbye so we won’t. We will just say what he would say____ “Love Ya, See You Later!”
Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:00 pm.
