Obituary of Samuel Conanan

Samuel Conanan, age 78, passed away peacefully in his home on April 1, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan (nee Driscoll) for 58 years; loving father of Christine LaFrance and her husband Russell, Adam Conanan and his wife Jean, Sammy Conanan and his wife Susan and Kerri Hafey and her husband Rory; cherished grandfather of Danielle, Steven, Michael, Meghan, Brianne, Alexandra, Adam, Alyssa, Jenna, Daniella, Savanna, Everly and Declan; devoted great grandfather of Melina, Jack and Ryan; dear brother of Isabel Cittadini and her late husband Frank, Donna Husejinovic and her husband Bill, Richard Conanan, and the late Michael and Natalio Conanan. Samuel is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Conanan was born and raised in Brooklyn and graduated from William E. Grady High School. He relocated to Staten Island in 1970, settling in Travis. Samuel worked for the NYC Transit Authority for over 40 years. He was a baseball and softball coach for his children's little league teams. Samuel loved to travel and some other hobbies included dancing, handball and gardening. Samuel will be remembered as a fun loving man who was the "life of the party". He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Wednesday, 4/7/2021, departing 9:45 AM. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, 4/6/2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Due to the current pandemic all visitors must wear a mask and social distancing will be enforced. Please understand there may be a short wait due to capacity limitations.
