Obituary of Vera Cena

Elvira Cena, known to all as Vera, of New Springville, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2021, with family by her side. She was 79. She is now united with her deceased husband, Larry. Vera is the daughter of the late Nunzio and the late Margaret Reale. Born in Acri, Italy, Mrs. Cena immigrated to the United States in 1953, settling in Brooklyn. She moved to New Springville in 1972. Mrs. Cena worked for 15 years as a saleswoman at Macy's with her beloved sister, Angelina Atigna, and retired in 2005. Vera loved spending the holidays with her family and enjoyed cooking for them. Her leisure-time pursuits included playing cards, watching game shows, visiting her children and grandchildren, and spending time down the shore, where she loved her trips to Atlantic City with her daughter Nancy. She looked forward to attending her grandchildren's dance recitals, soccer games, basketball games and other events. Surviving are her three sons, Stephen Cena (Nancy), Salvatore Cena (Julie), Larry Cena (Adrienne); three daughters, Marie Rappa (Joe), Susan Rizzo (Anthony), Nancy Cena and 11 grandchildren. Vera was the most caring person who managed to light up any room. She was an inspiration to her family and was loved by everyone who knew her. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Friday, 5/7/2021, departing at 10:00 AM. Funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church at 10:30 AM.
