Obituary of Anne V. Coughlin

Anne Eccleston Coughlin, 101 Anne Eccleston Coughlin native Staten islander was mother of nine passed away at home. Anne was one of nine children, born to Livingston and Josephine Eccleston in the Tompkinsville section of Staten Island. She went on to raise nine children of her own. As a young girl she worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance in Manhattan. When her youngest went to school she went back to work at Willowbrook State school. After 17 years, she retired to Sarasota, Florida, where many of her siblings and extended family retired years before her. While in Florida she was an active member of the VFW ladie's auxiliary and the American legion. Three of her brothers served in WWII and two sons served in the Vietnam war. She also belonged to bowling leagues and was an avid swimmer into her 80's. In her late 80's she spent 6 years with her daughter Donna and son in law Larry, living in SC. In 2012 she moved back home to Staten Island to her home in Westerleigh, bought for her by her late daughter, Kathy. "Annie" as she was known to many, loved a party, she was a great dancer and loved music. Her family celebrated many of her milestones with cruises and big parties and great times she so enjoyed. Anne was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1972, her son John (Mickey), and her daughter Kathleen, both in 2018. She was also predeceased by all of her 8 siblings. Anne is survived by her seven children: Judith O'Donnell (the late Michael), Edward (Louise), Martin, Donna Czekay (Larry), Dorothy (Dolly) Carannante (Sam,) James (Chopper) and Charles (Pat). She also leaves behind 3 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army of Staten Island, or the Teddy Atlas Foundation, or the Stephen Siller Tunnel 2 Towers Organization. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Friday, departing at 9:15 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Sylvester's R.C. Church at 10 am. Interment to follow in Ocean-View Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Due to Covid, all visitors must wear masks, practice social distancing, and be mindful that due to current capacity limitations, there may be a small visit to wait.
