Obituary of Antoinette Nardi
Antoinette Nardi
Staten Island, New York
December 31, 1938 – May 17, 2021
Antoinette Nardi (née Imbasciani), age 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, May 17, 2021.
She was born on December 31, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY., and was raised in the neighborhood of Gravesend. After graduating high school, her family moved to the neighborhood of Carroll Gardens. She attended Abraham Lincoln H.S. with Neil Sedaka and was enrolled in the Cooperative Education Program, where she worked for the banking industry in Manhattan. She married the love of her life four years later and worked as a homemaker until 1975, when she wore many hats as most women did and still do, and operated A&J Fruits and Vegetables with her husband, in-laws, sons and nephews. She eventually returned to the paid labor force in 1984 as a school bus matron for NYC, retiring after 23 years in 2007.
Annette was very involved in the school life of her children. She was an active member of the PTA and you could find her working door patrol with her sister-in-law Angie at P.S. 215., or volunteering at Our Lady of Grace School. She was an avid bowler in the mid to late 1970s and belonged to several leagues and teams, where she amassed many first place trophies and monetary prizes for her achievements. She loved her slots and always looked forward to casino excursions with her family and friends. Her final trip was to Niagara Falls. Wherever there was a bingo parlor you may have found Annette, especially on Thursday nights at Our Lady of Grace Church. She was an excellent cook especially known for her meatballs. She enjoyed television game and quiz shows. She loved having a good time and loved having family and friends over to her home, where there was always a party atmosphere. Particularly, for New Year's Eve, her birthday. Dancing and music were her passion, DoWop being number one. She was over the moon when she was on an elevator with Tony Orlando in Atlantic City.
Antoinette (Annette) was born to the late Sabina (Sophie) (née Cassano) and Onofrio Imbasciani. She married the love of her life the late John V. Nardi, Sr. on April 30, 1961, and they were married for 37 years. She is also predeceased by her brother Stephen and his wife Angie, sister-in-law Lucille, and brother John, her in-laws Vito and Carmela (née Muzzipapa) Nardi, John and Inez Mongioi, William Culliton, and Robert and Marie Nardi.
She is survived by her brother Joey and his wife Florence, sister Lucille, brother Frankie and his wife Diane, sister-in-law Annamarie, brother Michael, and sister (in-law) Grace Culliton. She is survived by her three beloved children, Vincent Sr. and Christine, John Jr., and Jennifer and Joseph Mills, her seven grandchildren: Chrissyanne, Frankie, Victoria, Vincent Jr., Jacqueline, Jessica and Joseph, and seven great-grandchildren in addition to countless, much loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Colossians 3:12-14 exemplified Annette.
12 As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. 13 Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord[f] has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
If you so choose, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Annette's memory to a breast cancer charity, juvenile diabetes or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
