Obituary of John W. Banis
John W. Banis, 72, of Staten Island, NY, peacefully passed away on June 5, 2021. Loving father of Kimberly A. Hernandez and husband Jose Luis, Melissa M. Banis and husband Jose Padilla, and Michael J. Banis. Cherished grandfather of Isabella, Nicholas, Abigail and Joshua. He was survived by his seven siblings, Irma, Robert, Anne, Monica, Vincent, Pamela and Roberta. He is survived by his loving and longtime companion Patricia (Penny) Magliocco, her daughter Elizabeth Ricca and husband Michael and daughter Amanda Anderson and companion Patty Anne, and the late Jaymee Anderson and two grandchildren Barrett and Gilby Ricca.
Mr. Banis was born in Massachusetts and raised on Staten Island, graduating from St. Peter’s Boys High School. After high school, he enlisted and served for four years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Upon return, he moved to Roselle, NJ and worked for Bayway Refinery in Linden, NJ and was a licensed electrical contractor. He was a computer enthusiast that enjoyed spending summers in Wildwood Crest, NJ building sandcastles.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his quick wit, and spending time with those closest to him. He was a kind hearted man who will be dearly missed by all those who had the pleasure to meet him.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Pity Church on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 9:30am. Inurnment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery on Staten Island, NY.
