Obituary of Jose R. Alvear

Jose “Papi Papi” Alvear, 90, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2021. He was the beloved husband of 65 years to Elssie “Mami Mami” Alvear and father to Jose Jr., Robert, and Guisella. A cherished grandfather to Christina, Jessica, Tanya, and Joseph, and great-grandfather to Carter, Charley, Cameron and Michael. Jose was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador. After serving in the military, he married and started a family. In the mid1950s, he immigrated to New York City in pursuit of the American dream. He worked for many years as a mechanic providing a life full of love and support for his wife and kids. When the children got older, Jose and Elssie took time for themselves to travel and explore the world. Jose’s whole life revolved around the happiness of his family -- whether that meant dishing out silly comments during a game of dominos or dancing salsa in the living room, but above all things, it meant being the perfect example of a loving husband and patriarch for all of us. Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
