Obituary of Robert T. Sweeney

Robert Sweeney, 68, of Staten Island, passed away on August 3,2021, surrounded by his wife and daughter. He is survived by his soulmate of 48 years, Gail, and the apple of his eye, his daughter Gabrielle. His extended family was large – they adored and loved him greatly. His immediate family was small and everything he loved most in this world. Robert was born in Brooklyn and moved to Staten Island with his soulmate to start a life 44 years ago. They spent 12 wonderful years together before having a beautiful baby girl. Robert’s life truly was complete. He lived his life fully and abundantly. Very few things made him as happy as spending time with his two girls. He loved to fish, play cards with his friends, take trips to the casino, play the horses, and watching any NY team win, especially the NY Giants and Yankees. Some of his favorite times included his yearly vacation to Las Vegas and being with his family, whether that be at Broadway shows, events and dinners, or watching their favorite shows together at home. He was loved by everyone he met. He was the sweetest, most gentle man and his love was infectious. He wanted the best for everyone and would do anything he could for anyone he knew. His humor was unparalleled – whether he was making someone laugh with his jokes, or offering a helping hand, he touched so many people with his beautiful soul. No one spread more love in a lifetime. He will forever be missed, but the love he created will always live on. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd., on Monday, 8/09/2021, departing at 10:00 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church at 10:30 AM. A private cremation will follow. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, 8/08/2021, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
