Obituary of Virginia A. Cocozello

Virginia A. Cocozello, 83, of Graniteville, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2021. She was the beloved daughter of the late Antonio and Luisa Fanelli; devoted wife of the late Lawrence M. Cocozello Sr (2018); loving mother of Pamela Cocozello, Lisa Kelly and her husband James "Zeke" Kelly, and Lawrence M. Cocozello Jr and his wife Laura; cherished grandmother of James Kelly, Zachary Kelly, Laur'en Cocozello, Jadyn Cocozello, and Lawrence M. Cocozello III; dear sister of Rose Incorvaia, Anne Trischetta, Marie Rampulla, Anthony Fanelli, Edward Fanelli and his wife Sue, and the late Victor Fanelli; fond sister-in-law of Jerry Cocozello and his wife Josephine. She was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Cocozello was born and raised on Staten Island, as a first generation Italian American. She graduated from Port Richmond High School and then furthered her education at the former Richmond College, where she earned 60 credits above her Master's Degree. She worked for over 35 years as a Special Education/Resource Teacher with the NYC Board of Education. In her spare time she was very active in the community, as she developed and taught the special education CCD program at Holy Family R.C. Church, was a member of the Staten Island Ladies of Charity, Our Ladies Pathway Ministry and Grandmother's Club. She was also involved with the Labetti VFW Post. Virginia was very artistic who loved to draw and crochet. She was very devoted to her family and loved spending time with them. In lieu of flowers, donations in Virginia's honor may be made to the Holy Family R.C. Church. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, 8/23, departing at 10:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church at 10:30 am. Interment to follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, 8/22, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
