Obituary of Louis P. Wein

Louis Philip Wein age 80, passed away surrounded by his wife and children on September 14, 2021. He was the dear son of the late Louis and Rosita Wein. He was the beloved husband of MaryAnn (nee Funicello) for 55 years. He was the loving father of Annemarie Shojai (Shervin), Mary D. Lauria (Douglas), Joseph Wein, Tonianne Delmar (John), Alexis Thompson (David), J. Andrew Wein and his late daughter, Nancy Wein. He was the dear grandpa/poppy of Joseph, Nina, Emilie, Zahl, Kaveh, Elizabeth, Ayla, Sofia, Vivian and Marianne. He was the cherished brother of his twin sister, Diana and his late brother, Joel. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Louis enlisted and served in the Marines from 1959 to 1966 and achieved the rank of Corporal. He was commissioned as an officer in the Marines in 1983. He served with the 8th & I Marine Barracks, Second Engineer Battalion, The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), 8th Marine Regiment, CINCLANT and Joint Special Operations Command. His active service came to an end in 1993. Some of Louis’ proudest accomplishments included being involved the 1970 presidential aid for president Nixon for civil preparedness and community relations, as well as in 1974 being a Federal liaison to New York City for President Ford. In addition, he was an Assistant to the New York City Mayor in 1975 and also ran for the offices of Mayor of New York City in 1977, Governor of New York state in 1992 and for Congress in Staten Island and Brooklyn 1980. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Til Valhalla Project and the Wounded Warriors Project in memory of Louis. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday, 9/18/2021, departing at 10:00 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church at 11:00 AM. A private cremation will follow. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, 9/16/2021, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and Friday, 9/17/2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
