Obituary of Michael Katz

Michael Katz, 40, of Grymes Hill, Staten Island, passed away at home on September 17, 2021. He was the beloved son of Deborah Arias and Joseph Katz, cherished stepson of Andrew Arias and brother Matthew Katz, and beloved step-brother to Andrew and Amanda Arias, as well as beloved uncle to Isabella Gonzalez. Michael was also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins, family and friends. Michael is a native Staten Islander, who graduated from Susan Wagner High School and Pace University with a BA in Accounting. He was an active FDNY Firefighter at Engine 24 Ladder 5 Greenwich Village for 17 years. Michael enjoyed training and teaching at Codella Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) Academy on Staten Island, where he received his black belt in 2017. He also was part of the BJJ Globetrotters and loved traveling worldwide. He will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him and will be in all our hearts forever. Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Wednesday, 9/22, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A service is scheduled at 8:00 pm on Wednesday in the funeral home, as well as at 10:30 am on Thursday in the funeral home, with cremation to follow in Rosehill Crematory, Linden, NJ.
