Obituary of Christine Colucci

Christine “Chris” Colucci (née Guariglia) passed away suddenly, peacefully, and surrounded by her family on September 21, 2021 at the age of 83. Chris was born in Brooklyn on February 17, 1938 and lived in the borough until 1994 when she and her husband moved to Staten Island where she spent the remainder of her life. She attended Prospect Heights High School and lived in the Bay Ridge and Borough Park neighborhoods of Brooklyn before moving to the Princes Bay section of Staten Island. Chris was a woman of strong faith and a longtime parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea parish on the Island. Chris is survived by Vincent, her loving husband of 63 years; son Dean and wife Anne Marie; son Christopher and wife Sharon; grandchildren Dante, Cassandra, Christian, Anthony, and Niccoló; sister Beatrice and husband Joseph Margiotta, and many friends and family. She was predeceased by her mother and father Grace and Joseph Guariglia and brother Joseph Guariglia. A lifelong volunteer, Chris’s passion was giving back to her community. She was involved with many organizations throughout her life, including the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital thrift shop in Brooklyn for 18 years, the parent associations at Our Lady of Angels School and Xaverian High School, the Grandmother’s Club, and Staten Island University Hospital South where she volunteered in the gift shop for more than 25 years, an accomplishment she was very proud of. At each place, she met many great friends whom she enjoyed working with and remained close with for many years. Chris also loved traveling, cooking, baking, watching “my soap” every afternoon, and going out to dinner with friends and family. She followed several annual traditions in the kitchen, making pizza rustica every Easter, jarring tomatoes every summer, and making struffoli every Christmas. She was happiest while sitting around a table with her loved ones and a glass of rosé in her hand when she’d tell the waiter “We’re in no rush,” so everyone could make the most of their time together. She and Vincent went on many memorable trips together, none more cherished than their visits to Italy where they relaxed, ate well, and learned about their heritage. A viewing will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, September 24 at Matthew Funeral Home at 2508 Victory Blvd. A funeral mass will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 25 at Our Lady Star of the Sea at 5411 Amboy Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
