Obituary of Yeong Hae Ahn

Yeong-Hae Ahn, 81, of Staten Island, NY passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family on November 3rd, 2021. She was the beloved wife of Kwang-Song Ahn (d. 1989); loving mother of Youn-Hee Paré and her husband David, Jeannie Hasler and her husband Kenneth, and Jeffrey Ahn and his wife Blanca; and devoted grandmother of Julia, Grace and David Paré, Samantha Hasler, and Niko Ahn. She was preceded in death by her two siblings, Yeong-Gi Kim and Yeong-Boon Kim. Mrs. Ahn was born in Cheongju, South Korea, where she graduated from nursing school, and met and married Kwang-Song. They moved to the United States with their young children in 1975. She worked in Golden Gate Nursing Home in Staten Island as a nursing assistant for nearly three decades before retiring to take care of her grandchildren. Yeong-Hae was a faithful member of Marn-Baeksung United Methodist Church since her arrival in the US. Her talent for cooking unbelievable Korean dishes was renowned not only for their incredible flavor but also beautiful presentation, as she said frequently, "You taste with your eyes as well." Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard on Monday, November 8th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, followed by evening visitation (7:00 – 9:00 pm) and service (starts at 7:30 pm). Interment to follow on Tuesday, November 9th, at 11:00 am at Moravian Cemetery.
