Obituary of Jack "Giacomo" F. Masso

Jack F. Masso, 96, of Belford, NJ, formerly of Graniteville, Staten Island, passed away peacefully at his home on November 4, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine (2018); devoted son of the late Anthony and Margaret Masso; loving father of Margaret Ponterella and her husband Rick, and Anthony Masso and his wife Lisa; cherished grandfather of Marissa Marchese and her husband Charles, Vincent and Elena Ponterella, Isabella, Sofia and Siena Masso. He was predeceased by seven siblings and survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Masso was born in Bloomfield, NJ, and raised in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and later lived in Long Island before relocating to Staten Island. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Automotive High School in 1943, and then drafted and proudly served in the U.S. Army, in Europe and fought during the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. He was employed for 39 years with the New York City Sanitation Department, retiring in 1987. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and growing his own vegetables, fishing and doing Origami. He was a Fourth Degree Knight, previously with the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Brooklyn. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was a true family man who cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jack was also known for his great sense of humor. No sacrifice was too big for him! Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday, 11/9, departing at 10:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church at 10:30 am. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, 11/8, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
