Obituary of Katherine Cizin
Katherine Cizin (née Kraljic), age 82, of Meiers Corners, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2021. She was the beloved wife of Miro for 62 years. She was the loving mother of John (spouse Susan), Thomas (spouse Patricia), Maryann, Miro (spouse Kathryn), Steven, and Nancy (spouse Steven). She was a beloved grandmother to Danielle, Maria (spouse Philip), Michael, Nicholas, Andrew, Kiley, Caitlyn, Samantha, John, Dylan, and Norah, and great-grandmother to Anthony, Aiden, Antoinette, and Giavanna. She was a dear aunt to several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her cherished sisters, Helen Antoncic (and her spouse, Joseph) and Marija Turkovic (and her spouse, Joseph).
Born in 1938, Katherine was raised in her hometown of Omišalj, Croatia. She came to the United States when she was 18 years old seeking greater opportunities. In New York City, she met and married her adored husband, Miro. They settled on Staten Island in 1963, where they raised their children surrounded by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Katherine was deeply devoted to her family and often referred to her children (in Croatian) as “my heart.” Her love and support were ceaseless. Those around her benefited from her generosity of spirit and many talents. She was a skilled cook, baker, seamstress, and craftswoman, sharing her delicious food, beautiful quilts, and other handmade items. She also worked at times as a dressmaker in garment factories.
Katherine was active in her parish, the Church of St. Rita. She enjoyed and spoke fondly of her friends in the St. Rita’s Ladies Guild and Quilting Club.
Katherine always held her loved ones close to her heart. Her love and light will shine on us forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday, departing at 9:45 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Rita at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Staten Island. Family and friends will be received on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
