Obituary of Thomas L. Cavataio

Thomas L. Cavataio, 85, of Staten Island, NY passed away at his home on November 13, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Dorothea Cavataio of 55 years, devoted son of the late Maria and Giuseppe Cavataio; loving father of Joseph (Elena) Cavataio and Marissa (Michael) Ravelo; cherished grandfather of Michael Cavataio and Nicole and Michael Ravelo. Also survived by brother Frank (Nilda) Cavataio and predeceased by his infant sister Fara Maria Cavataio. Mr. Cavataio was born in Cinisi, Sicily and came to the United States when he was 11 years old. He grew up in Manhattan and Brooklyn and later moved to Staten Island to raise his family. He proudly served in the Air Force stationed mainly in Alaska. He was employed as a dispatcher for MTA, as well as being an owner of a pizzeria for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed going to Atlantic City and was an avid Giant fan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a parishioner at St. Patricks Parish. He also served as president of Sons of Italy (Father Capadano Lodge) for 3 years. He cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was very generous and had the most caring heart, he truly was an exceptional man and loved by all. Funeral from Matthew Funeral Home, Inc, 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Wednesday 11/17, departing at 10:15 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's RC Church at 11 am. Interment to follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday 11/16, from 1-3 and 6-8.
