Obituary of Joseph D. DeNora

Joseph D. DeNora, 92, of Farmingdale, NJ, formerly of Castleton Corners, Staten Island, passed away peacefully at his home on November 25, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Jennie (2018); loving father Ann Marie Grimaldi and her husband Fred, Michael J. DeNora and his wife Andrea, and Lisa Castellano and her husband Joseph; cherished grandfather of Christine Gambardella and her husband Peter, Ralph Grimaldi and his wife Lauren, Joseph DeNora, Michael A. DeNora, Joseph Castellano, and Thomas Castellano; devoted great-grandfather of Ralph, Anthony, Frankie, Madeline and Adriana; dear brother of Vicky DeNora. He was preceded in death by his siblings Carrie Aufiero and Fran Ricciardi. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. DeNora was born and raised in Staten Island, predominantly in Castleton Corners. After High School he was drafted and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, being stationed at Camp Rucker, Alabama. During his career he was a Luncheonette Owner, an antique and coin shop owner, and Truck Driver and retired as a Truck Loader at Joseph F. Whelan Trucking Company. Joseph was the President of the Staten Island Coin Club. He was also an avid hunter and was passionate about cooking. Joseph was affectionately known as "Goombah Joe" by his circle of hunting friends. Mr. DeNora also enjoyed traveling with his wife Jennie of 68 years. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, departing at 10:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Teresa's R.C. Church at 10:45 am. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
