Obituary of Elizabeth A. Rydell

Elizabeth Rydell, 76, known to family and friends as Betsy, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning at Staten Island University Hospital. Sadly, she was predeceased by her husband Allan (1999), sister Barbra (1995), and son Paul (2019). She is survived by her sons Gene and Matthew, her daughter Penny, her niece Jenny, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Elizabeth is also survived by her brother William and his two daughters. Mrs. Rydell was a voracious reader and fantastic Scrabble player who enjoyed decades of bowling. She was born in Manhattan, and settled into the Castleton Corners neighborhood of Staten Island in 1975, where she made dozens of beloved friends, and thought of neighbors as family. She was an exceedingly kind person who never knew a stranger, often opening her home to family and friends and hosting many unforgettable & festive block parties. Memorial visitation will be held at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Thursday December 9th from 4:00 to 9:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will commence at 7:30 PM.
