Obituary of John J. Witkowski

John J. Witkowski, Jr., 93, son of John and Margaret passed away on December 24, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Anna Witkowski for sixty-four years; loving father of Carolyn Witkowski and adored his nephews, Edward and wife Regina, James and wife Robin, Richard and wife Jeanette, grandniece, Lauren and grandnephews, Gregory, Jonathan, Raymond and Robert. Preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret, brother Robert, sister-in-law Florence and grandnephew Max. John was born in Brooklyn and raised on Staten Island. After serving as an officer in the United States Army Reserves, began his career at Kidder Peabody and attended night school at New York Law School and passed the New York Bar exam on his first attempt. He loyally spent the rest of his career at Merrill Lynch. Later in life, after retirement utilized his unique background by serving as the Chairman on several New York Stock Exchange Arbitration cases. He enjoyed reading, debating, playing cards, tinkering with projects and most of all spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved a spontaneous match of "last tag" with his nephews at the conclusion of some visits, where grown men would race up and down stairs, knock over furniture and objects on the way outside to where it would continue. He will be dearly missed. We love you always. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd., on Monday, 1/3/2022, departing at 12:15 PM. Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, 1/3/2022, at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow in Ocean View Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, 1/2/2021, from 12:00 to 4:00 PM. Due to the current pandemic, all visitors are required to wear masks regardless of vaccination status.
