Just a very few memories of Joann Beyer Askins
My best friend in the word
We knew each other since TIAA CREF in 1977
Went to Nightgallery Disco on 18th Ave in Brooklyn NY
You went to bars, mustard seed, r 7 r stars/ romeo & juliet/fantasy island
the fun house, starbucks disco/punk club/peppermint lounge, etc
We saw Rick Springfield/
We saw Billy Idol at the beacon theatre in ny
We went to wildwood nj many times,
schlessingers fudge,
You even jogged in a race called the turkey trot in prospect park brooklyn , and also jogged at new utrecth track
so many memories we have shared
you organized a surprise 40th b/d to me with a stripper/ police man, trying to arrest me for shoplifting. that was so funny, you
invited my uncle and his girlfriend, your mom was there,, so so many memories
you were my sons godmother, so sorry i should have made mark the godfather but he is anyway in my mind you both should have been the godparents of sean, i just thought i had to have mike choose someone on his side of the family, but mike said that mark should of been seans godfather, sorry mark. but you are to me.
- you had all those cats, you rescued bandit and mikala that my brooklyn neighbor threw out.
you had such a good friend mike smith, that passed away too young, you got a chance to say goodbye to him
- we lost paul gurarisco caccamo the same day as you
-we all used to go out and dance our butts away at the clubs
- you got that diabetes, and it screwed everything up/ you lost your toe, and you had horrific neuroply. you wouldn't put that
on your worse enemy
- you also helped and you took in an old friend, vinny russo, who you felt so bad for because he lost all his income and it was nice that you took him in your home- however, it didn't work out as you thought, and the drinking came and it was not
respectful since mark was nice enough to let him in./ he didn't even visit you in the hospital when you were first sick. i know he did love you as a friend, but sure did not show it. sorry about that.
- i am sorry that you had to leave us so soon. i am happy that i was able to see you before you were gone and gave you the soda-- also was glad you came to my house in august 2021 as well
- i still cannot believe you are gone
- you were very caring and a voice of reason
you will be missed !
love mj

joann was full of life/ she always was helping others and forgetting to care about herself/ we went through a lot together with decades ago of going to clubs and enjoying the night away -taking nyc trains home from the ny clubs at 4 in the morning- eating wheat thins that we got from smilers convenience store on the way to the subway.
she went through all my crazy relationships / she organized a surprise party for me- and a baby shower/ theres so much
she did//she drove all the way from staten island to brooklyn to rescue a kitten my neighbor threw out/ and then she regretted
taking bandit and his mother because they never got along.
her love for cats always was there, even when the cats passed away, she was always adopting another one.
she was always giving good advice, but not taking to advice that could be for her since she just cared about everyone
else.
when she got ill a few times, it was sad to see her effort to even walk normal. she could be an advocate for diabetes because the issues she went through with that illness, she never wanted to see anyone go through what she went through.
she was a strong person, who believed that you should stand up for yourself and never get taken advantage of. She is the godmother of my son. I will love her always and treasure and remember all the good memories. Rest in Peace- In Jesus Name
Amen
