Obituary of Janet E. Anderson

Janet Eleanor Anderson - Obituary Born: November 16, 1925 Janet Eleanor Anderson, 96, of Shrewsbury, NJ, formerly of Staten Island NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 1, 2022. Born in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, NY, she was raised by loving parents, Signa & Jacob Peterson. Janet attended public school and did so well, she skipped grade levels twice. Following WWII, she resided in Staten Island, NY for 72 years. After graduation from the Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn, Janet spent 3.5 years as secretary to Port Chaplain Bussy, at NY Port of Embarkation, during WWII. While there she met her husband George, a member of the US Army Entertainment unit, during a Christmas concert at which he performed as a soloist. During the 1960's Janet worked as a secretary at Wallerstein Company for 7 years on Staten Island. She also worked at Seaview Hospital Rehabilitation Center & Home on Staten Island for 13 years serving as executive secretary to the Director. Janet also volunteered her administration skills for 12 years to both the Staten Island and NY state chapters of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). Her volunteerism included 5 years as a Brownie & Girl Scout Leader. Janet dedicated herself to her faith, family, and friends. She was involved with churches her entire life. Janet was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, attended Sunday School there and for 50 years was a member at Zion Lutheran Church on Staten Island beginning in the 1950's. At Zion she was President of: The Guild for 1 year, Woman of the Church for 2 years, Vice President of ZWELA (Zion Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) for 2 years and President for 4 years. Janet and her husband, George, helped establish Zion's Pre-Kindergarten School in the early 1980's. Janet loved to travel and visited countries in the Caribbean, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, and Norway. She was a kind and compassionate person who loved all members of her family to the very end of her life. She was always a positive person, and never had conflict with anyone. Her unflagging love inspired her entire family. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Wille and her husband Robert; her son George and his wife Ellen; 9 loving grandchildren: Allison Flynn, Erik Anderson, Robert Wille, Brian Anderson, Elizabeth Phelps, Andrew Anderson, Kristin Dona, Tom O Brien, and Shannon Draper; 14 great-grandchildren – Brian, Madison, Abigail, Madeline, Paige, Michael, Liliana, Autumn, Charlotte, Charles, Jackson, Boden, Brigette, and Reginald; and many loving nieces & nephews. Janet is predeceased by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, George W. Anderson, her sister Madeline Friedlander, brother Alan Peterson, sisters-in-law Billy, Clara, Eleanor, Evelyn, Florence, and Vivian; brothers-in-law William, Arnold, and Arthur, as well as her partner of 7 years Sam Emmanuelle. A graveside service is scheduled on Thursday, 1/6, at 11:00 am, at Fairview Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
