Obituary of Mario M. Castro
Mario M. Castro, 96, of Staten Island, NY, formerly of Chimaltenango, Guatemala, passed away peacefully at Richmond Carmel Nursing home in the presence of his daughters Janet Castro-Hoover, Dianne Castro-Paliouras and of his granddaughter Mariam Del Valle Castro on January 27, 2022. He was a beloved husband. He was preceded in death by his 3rd wife Berta (1990), by his 2nd wife Lidia (1992) and his 1st wife Teresa (1995). Loving father to Orlando, Janet, Dianne, Mario, Hugo R., David., Reyna., Gloria., and Teresita. He was preceded in death by his children Ana P., Johanna and Oscar G. Cherished grandfather of Susana, Marco T., Julio, Teresita (Beba), Amir., Jose A., Huguito, Marlon, Cristofer, Lidia, Pamela, Maria Jose, Jose D., Kara., Joseph., Raymond, Ken., Saika. Amanda., Mariam., Johnathan., Kaylin., Krista., Tessa., Emilia., Gabriela and Lucas. He was preceded in death by his grandson Jeremi and granddaughters Maria de los Angeles and Gabriela Isabel. Dear brother to Cesar, Ana, Mary and Juan Jose. He was preceded in death by his siblings Hector, Joaquin and Carmen.
Mr. Castro was born and raised in Escuintla, Guatemala, he predominantly lived in both Chimaltenango, Guatemala and in New York, in his later years he settled in Staten Island, New York with his daughter Janet Castro-Hoover and her family. During his career he began working in a Cattle farm, he was a foreman for road-construction, he was a mechanic for
Old London Foods Inc. and a very proud businessman and owner in Guatemala. He was a proud member of the Lion's Club. He was a gentleman's gentleman, he had charisma, he had a strong sense of duty and responsibility. He had a deep sense of family and values. He was proud about everything of his Guatemalan culture, the religious traditions, the food and music. He always led by his example. Integrity, hard work and dedication meant a lot to him. He loved to visit new places and learn new things through experience and reading. His great love for the arts and music were a constant throughout his life. His love and effortless ability to dance as if he were Fred Astaire himself was always a wonderful and exciting sight to see on the dance floors. Mario M. Castro leaves a great legacy behind for his children to live by. He will forever be dearly loved and missed by all of his family and friends.
Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Thursday, 2/3, and Friday, 2/4, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral departing from the funeral home on Saturday, 2/5, at 10:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church at 11:00 am. Private cremation will follow.
