Obituary of Gertrud M. Liebling

Obituary for Gertrud M. Liebling Gertrud M. Liebling, 101, of Westerleigh, passed away peacefully on March, 19, 2022. She was the devoted daughter of the late Marie and Ernst Zurlinden; the beloved wife of the late Otto Liebling for 47 years; loving mother of Lillian Asciutto; fond mother-in-law of Joseph Asciutto; cherished grandmother of Jennifer Voss and Kristen Lambert; beloved great-grandmother of Karly Lambert, Tyler Lambert and Sydney Voss. Gertrud was born and raised in Zofingen, Switzerland. She immigrated to the New York City in 1950. When her daughter was young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. It was usual for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked. But even by the standards of the era, Gertrud was an exceptional wife and mother. Gertrud cared deeply for her family and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but with a smile and laugh as this was her nature. She adored her friends and time spent at the Arrochar Friendship Club where bingo was her game of choice. Affectionately known as “Omi”, the love she had for her granddaughters and great grandchildren was unsurpassed. Waked at Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 7:00pm – 9:00pm. Funeral mass and Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, 366 Watchogue Road, on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.
