Obituary of Ursula Cashin

Loving wife, mother and grandmother Ursula Rosaire Cashin, 83, passed away on March 24th, 2022 peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones. Ursula was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 30th 1938. Ursula loved singing in the church choir at her parish St. Theresa Lisieux (“the Little Flower”) in Brooklyn. The youngest of seven children, Ursula spent her childhood laughing, playing and going with her family to the Catskills to lounge by the lakeside. A graduate of Catherine Mc Auley High School, she worked at the New York Telephone Company. In 1963, she married the love of her life Joseph P. Cashin. Together, they had five children that she adored each and every day. As a devoted wife and mother, nothing made Ursula happier than spending time with her children and watching them grow. Ursula and Joseph moved to Staten Island in 1967. A devout Catholic, Ursula was a long-time parishioner of St. Adalbert’s Parish, where she attended mass daily, on Sunday and sang beautifully. She was a board member of the St. Adalbert’s Mothers Club for many years. She also was a proud blood donor at the New York Blood Bank for over 20 years. In her spare time, she loved doing weekly Eucharistic adoration at the Society of St. Paul. She also contributed her time and efforts to the Autism Speaks Charity Walk in Long Branch, NJ. Ursula enjoyed going to the Annual Staten Island St. Patrick’s Day parades, summer weekends down the shore in Point Pleasant Beach, Atlantic City, and Lancaster (Pa.) Ursula treasured her memories from her many vacations. Among her favorites were her trips to Ireland, her Pilgrimage to Lourdes France, Italy, Hot-Air ballooning in Arizona and Palm Springs California. Ursula’s greatest joy in life was spending time with those she loved. She attended every social gathering she could and was a shining, indelible presence in everyone’s lives. Her kindness, grace, and faith radiated through everything she did. She had the most magnetic smile and lit up every room she entered. Ursula is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Joseph, her children Patricia Bellini (Peter), Mary Alice Cashin, Christine Ventre (Frank), Ursula Mahoney (Tom) and Joseph Cashin (Roseanna). She is also survived by her six Grandchildren Anthony, Jaclyn, Alyssa, Brandon, Joseph and Patrick whom she loved and adored deeply. Survived by her brother and sister-in-Law, Wally and Madeline Cashin, Ursula was blessed with many loving nieces and nephews whom she spent much time with. Ursula was pre-deceased by her parents, James and Teresa Nolan and her siblings James, Theresa, John, Patricia, Edward, Raymond, her Godchild Sara and beloved In-Laws and cousins. Visitation is at Matthew Funeral Home at 2508 Victory Blvd Staten Island, NY on Sunday, March 27th from 1-5pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Adalbert’s parish on Monday, March 28th at 10am. Her internment will be at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering and Autism Speaks foundations and charities.
