Obituary of Joseph P. Cashin, Jr.

Loving husband, father and grandfather Joseph P. "Buddy" Cashin, Jr., 88, passed away on March 31st, 2022 peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Buddy was born in Queens, New York on October 26th, 1933. Buddy passionately loved Baseball and the Brooklyn Dodgers were his favorite team. He spent his childhood laughing, going to Ebbets Field and the beach at Far Rockaway. As he grew older, he maintained his loyalty until the Dodgers moved to LA and then he cheered on the NY Mets for the rest of his life. A graduate of Erasmus Hall HS in Brooklyn, he served in the US Air Force as a Firefighter in postings in Korea and in the U.S. In 1963, he married the love of his life, Ursula R. Nolan. Together, they had five children that he loved with his whole heart every day. As the head of his family nothing filled him with more pride than the happiness of his wife and children. He had a work ethic second to none. His 40 year career in Banking and Finance at the Bank of NY and Bank of America was a testament to that. He continued to stay involved with Market developments and the financial news topics of the day. Buddy and Ursula moved to Staten Island in 1967. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Adalbert's RC Church where he attended Mass regularly and was an Usher. Buddy also supported Autism Speaks Charity Walk in Long Branch, NJ. A proud American, he enjoyed celebrating his Irish heritage watching the Annual Staten Island St. Patrick's Day parades, long summer weekends gardening in Point Pleasant Beach, Atlantic City, and Lancaster (Pa.) Buddy made many memorable vacation trips. Among his favorites were trips to Ireland, Hot-Air ballooning in Arizona, guided trips along the west coast of California and Florida. Buddy loved Halloween parties and laughing with those he loved. He attended every family gathering he could and was a smiling presence in everyone's lives. The twinkle in his eye, his steadfast nature and his faith touched everyone he met. He had a quiet way of letting you know he was interested in what you had to say. He was a man of character and believed in giving and getting respect. Buddy had a passion for coin-collecting in his later years. He also enjoyed playing Pinochle with his friends on a regular basis. Buddy was predeceased one week ago to the day by his beloved bride Ursula, his wife of 58 years. His children continue his legacy, Patricia Bellini (Peter), Mary Alice Cashin, Christine Ventre (Frank), Ursula Mahoney (Tom) and Joseph Cashin (Rosanna). He is also survived by his six Grandchildren Anthony, Jaclyn, Alyssa, Brandon, Joseph and Patrick in whose lives he left such a deep impression whom he loved deeply. Survived by his brother, Wally and sister-in-Law Madeline Cashin and sister-in-law Margaret Nolan. Buddy was blessed with many wonderful nieces and nephews that were so important to him. Buddy was pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph P. Cashin Sr. and Bridget Cashin (nee Darcy), his siblings Joan Argano (Don), Patricia Federico (Jack), half-siblings from Ireland Bill Cashin, Millie Finnan, Bridget Farrell, godchild Sara Jones, and beloved In-Laws and cousins. Above all, Buddy was a man of faith and character with a fierce strength in dealing with numerous health issues over the years.
