Obituary of Gerardina Romano

Gerardina Romano passed away on Sunday May 29th, 2022 surrounded in her home by her family. Born in Summonte, Italy to Cosimo Govetosa and Vita Maria Farenga, she was the youngest of 5, Philomena, Anna, Gemma and Michele. She immigrated to America in 1954 and returned to Italy in 1956 to marry Ludovico Romano. They both returned to Staten Island, where she raised their children, Rita, Cecilia and Felice. She was blessed with a granddaughter, Gabrielle, whom she adores. Gerardina also shared her life on Staten Island with her sister Gemma, brother in law Mike Peluso, and their children Mary Jane and Mikey. She returned to Italy many times during the years where she kept her families connection with her Italian heritage alive. Gerardina was an excellent cook, there was not a Sunday that went by where a traditional Italian dinner was not made and served by her. Her homemade sauce along with homemade wine. In fact she had a family meal every night of the week. Family and friends were always welcome in her home. Her forte was serving, she served all with such warmth and joy and leaves behind a legacy of compassion and service. Her kind spirit and loving nature will surely be missed. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Friday, 6/3/2022, departing at 11:45 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church at 12:15 PM. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Friday, 6/3/2022, 9:30 to 11:30 AM.
