Obituary of Virginia M. Quirk
Virginia M. Quirk (nee Murray), 91, beloved mother and grandmother, passed peacefully on June 8, 2022. Virginia's husband of 66 years, John S. Quirk, passed away last year. Virginia is survived by her eight children and their spouses, John (Patricia), Michael (Marie), Stephen (Marguerite), Noreen Tortora (the late Bernard), Timothy (Patty), Mary Tierney (Tom), Virginia Reid (Edwin), James (Antoinette). She is also survived by 18 grandchildren who cherished and adored her and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia was born in The Bronx. Her parents, James and Nora Murray (nee Keane) immigrated from County Mayo, Ireland. Virginia was predeceased by her brothers, James, Lawrence, John, Thomas and her sisters, Frances Higgins, Kathleen Murray and Mary Murray.
Virginia graduated from St. Vincent's Nursing School in Manhattan. She had a love of learning and, while raising eight children, continued her education, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and her Master's Degree in Health Education.
Virginia retired in 1993 and enjoyed her retirement years spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren at her country home in Andes, New York, and the winter months in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, Virginia's family would appreciate donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd., SI NY 10314, on Tuesday, departing at 10:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church, 366 Watchogue Rd., SI NY 10314 on Tuesday, June 14th at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Monday, June 13th from 4:00 to 9:00 pm.
