Obituary of Averina Maria Fedele

Averina Fedele, 93, of Port Richmond, passed away on Friday, June 24th, 2022 at home surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife of the late Giuseppe Fedele and dearest mother to the late Salvatore Fedele. She is survived by her loving children Tony, Adelindo, Vincenza, Joseph, and Tee along with 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Averina was born on April 21st, 1929 in San Lorenzo Nuovo, Italy. She married Giuseppe on May 21st, 1944 and they immigrated to America in 1957 where they started a new life on Staten Island. Averina worked as a seamstress for over a decade. Her passion for sewing became a favorite hobby of hers where she would create and customize clothing for her children. Averina also enjoyed crocheting baby blankets for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She found great joy in gardening and cooking. This is where she formed the longstanding family tradition of canning homemade tomato sauce. Her family was the greatest joy in her life and she loved spending time with them, especially her bestie granddaughter, ToniMaria. She was the matriarch and glue that held everyone together. Aside from her proudest moment of birthing six children, Averina's second proudest moment was becoming a citizen of the United States in 1966. Visitation for Averina will be at Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Sunday, June 26th from 2:00 to 8:00 pm. A service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Monday, June 27th at St. Adalbert's Church, 30 St. Adalbert Place.
