Obituary of Capt Andres N. Kagaoan PN (RET)

Andres N. Kagaoan (November 30, 1938 – July 30, 2022) Andres N. Kagaoan (November 30, 1938 – July 30, 2022) Captain Andres “Andy” N Kagaoan PN (RET), 83, died peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2022. He was surrounded by his spouse-Angelina; children-Susanne (with husband Allen), Caroline (with husband Emilio), and John (with wife Myla); and grandchildren-Andrew, Eric, Sean, Matthew, Kyle, Amelia and Caylan at his bedside at the Richmond University Medical Center, in Staten Island, New York. A beloved Naval officer, husband to his loving wife Lina, father, grandfather and friend, he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Andy was educated at the Philippine Military Academy, which is equivalent to the United States Naval Academy, and graduated among the top ten percent of his class in 1960. He rose through the ranks of Captain within the shortest period of time; and commanded essential naval operations through the mid 80’s. Reflective perspective on the formation of military identities with regard to responsibilities and sacrifices, Andy retired from his command post to unite with his spouse and children in the United States. He continued his service, only to fully dedicate his time to support his wife, children, and his grandchildren. He was an avid Chess, Poker, Bridge, and Scrabble player; and won several gold medals in the Senior Olympics events in Staten Island. Andy was well respected and loved for his character of intelligence, steady hand, faithfulness, dependability, discipline, and honesty. Family and friends may visit on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc. 2508 Victory Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10314, (718) 761-5544. Funeral departing on Saturday at 10:30 am. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church at 11:00 am. Private cremation to follow.
